Niranjan Dodantenna (Ph.D.) is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in molecular virology at the Vaccines & Infectious Disease Organisation (VIDO), University of Saskatchewan, SK, Canada. He earned his BSc in Animal Science & Fisheries from the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya in 2018. In early 2024, he earned his Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Republic of Korea. His Ph.D. is based on molecular virology, especially the identification of innate immune evasion mechanisms of three African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) proteins, EP364R, C129R, and DP96R (UK gene). He participated in producing live attenuated vaccines for the ASFV and in developing cell lines to support the mass production of these vaccines. In addition to his work on ASFV, he has also researched host inflammasomes and interferon regulation, focusing on how host proteins influence innate immune responses. In addition, he develops antiviral drugs against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) based on herbal fractions in vitro and in vivo.
